Installing FFXIV on Linux

The best way that I found to install FFXIV on Linux is to use XIVLauncher. It has the prerequistes built-in, along with performance tweaks to make it a very straightforward install.

The above link will take you to the Linux install guide, which includes details of how to account for either a Steam license or a standard Windows license.

Alternative Method

XIVLauncher is the quickest and easiest method to install FFXIV on Linux but just in case, here’s an alternative approach.

Steam

1. Install Steam either from your distro’s software installer, from the Steam website or using a compatible Terminal command:
   # On Ubuntu/Debian
sudo apt install steam

# On Fedora
sudo dnf install steam
   
2. Enable Proton: Open Steam, go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play. Check the box that says “Enable Steam Play for all other titles” and select the latest Proton version
   
3. Install FFXIV from your library, as you would with Windows

Native Client

1. Install Wine (short for Wine Is Not an Emulator) from WineHQ or your distro’s built-in app store
   
2. Install FFXIV from the official website. Wine will automatically work with the exe.
