Retainers – What is?

Why Get Retainers

• They can each store 175 items and a ton of gil.
• They sell items on the Marketboard.
• Procures items and materials via Ventures.

Unlock / Create Retainers
Requires completing the lvl 17 MSQ “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn

• Hire Retainers by talking to a Retainer Vocate, located near the Market Board of the Main Cities.
• Your subscription allows you to hire up to two retainers per character without paying any additional fees.
• You can add up to 7 additional retainers (for a total of 9) from the Mog Station. $2.00 for 30 days.
• The FFXIV Companion App also gives you an extra retainer (for a total of 10) if upgraded to premium.
• You may re-customize your retainer at any time via the use of a Retainer Fantasia. Consult the Retainer Vocate after using one.

How to: Classes and Jobs

• Assignment of jobs requires a copy of Modern Vocation purchased from a Retainer Vocate for 40 Ventures.
• You can “Reset Retainer Class”, this removes the class from the retainer so a new one can be assigned.
• Experience gained in the old class is lost permanently.

Cannot be done while the retainer is on a venture.

What’s the Best Retainer Class
It depends on what you want to get out of it, they’re all very useful!

• Botany & Mining are incredibly valuable to gain extra gathering (rocks & fauna) mats for yourself or to sell.
• Fishing is not bad, but a bit niche.
• DoW/DoM are incredibly valuable to gain extra battle (monster parts) mats for yourself or to sell.

Gearing Retainers

• The only stat that benefits your DoW/DoM is their ilvl.
• The only stat that benefits your Gatherer is their gathering stat.

Venture Tokens

Venture Tokens are required to send your Retainers out on Ventures to receive exp and/or materials!

Venture Requirements

• Requires completing the lvl 17 quest “An Ill-conceived Venture” located in your starting city.

Venture Categories
Hunting

• Retainers will be tasked with obtaining a specified item of your choosing.

Field Exploration

• Free to explore the world to obtain items as they see fit, brings you random fun stuff.
• Although these ventures require more time to complete, they yield far greater experience

Quick Exploration

• Free to explore the world to obtain items as they see fit, brings you random fun stuff.
• Require Retainer lvl 10.

Purchase Venture Tokens

• via your Grand Company vendor for 200 seals ea. (Must be rank Private Third Class.)
• via Mark Quartermaster in the Wolves’ Den for 100 Wolf Marks ea.
• via some Tribes with their respective currency.
• with Allied Seals.

How To Perform Tax Evasion

Where to Purchase

• Avoid the 5% tax by making purchases at the Market Board in the same city as the retainer selling the item.

Send Your Retainers to More Profitable Markets

• Check taxes through a Retainer Vocate.
• Go to the city where the taxes are lowest.
• Send your retainers to this market via a Retainer Vocate.
• Profit.

Waste Less Gil

Buying & Selling

• If an item shows “shop selling price” it can be bought from a vendor.
• If it says “(restricted)” after its item name, it has a prerequisite.
  E.g.: unlock quest or beast tribe reputation.
• Note that items that require other currencies, such as MGP, do not show this.
